Kathmandu Road Dispute

The tension simmers between Kathmandu Metropolitan City and the Road Department as the deadline to repair a demolished road section expires today, Friday.

The Road Supervision and Monitoring Office, a department branch, issued a letter to Kathmandu Metropolitan City led by Mayor Balen Shah. The letter warns of potential legal action if the demolished road section isn’t restored within two days.

This dispute follows a controversial move by Mayor Shah. He previously announced sending “dust as a gift” to the Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Raghubir Mahaseth. The act sparked tension, culminating in a truck dumping dust at the gate of the Road Supervision and Monitoring Office.

The Road Department now demands the city repair the damaged road section. Failure to comply within the deadline could result in legal action under the Public Roads Act.
