Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda is set to take a vote of confidence on May 20th. This will be his fourth vote of confidence during his third term in office.

The move comes amidst a blockade of the House of Representatives by the Nepali Congress, leading the ruling party to call for a vote of confidence. The need for this vote arose after the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal (JSP) split on May 5th, with President Upendra Yadav withdrawing his support from the government.

Speaker Devraj Ghimire’s press adviser, Shekhar Adhikari, confirmed that the Prime Minister’s Secretariat has already sent a letter to the Parliament Secretariat requesting the vote of confidence. According to the constitution, the Prime Minister must seek a vote of confidence within 30 days after a coalition partner withdraws its support.
