Nepal Province Chief Karki on Meeting with Party Chief Oli

Kosi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki has downplayed the significance of his recent meeting with Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman KP Sharma Oli, describing it as an internal party discussion.

Speaking to journalists at Biratnagar Airport on Thursday, Karki said Chairman Oli had informed the party committee and provincial committee about the party’s decision, but declined to elaborate further.

When asked about reports that Chairman Oli had given him certain conditions or ‘tasks’ to fulfill, Karki responded briefly, saying, ‘I will complete the tasks in due time, let’s see.’

Commitment to Power-Sharing Agreement

Karki also reaffirmed his commitment to implementing the 9 Shrawan agreement, a power-sharing deal between the NCP and the CPN (Maoist Centre) in Kosi Province.

Regarding the resignation of Nepali Congress ministers and the future of the government, Karki said, ‘Our effort now is to take everyone along. Some issues have arisen due to the central policy of the Congress. We will start discussing this from tomorrow, and the discussion will yield a solution within a few days.’

Karki refused to comment on reports that he had been asked to resign by his party in-charge, describing it as an internal matter.

Karki had met Chairman Oli at his residence in Gundu on Wednesday, amid speculation about a possible change in leadership in Kosi Province. The meeting has been seen as a sign that Karki will continue as Chief Minister.
