Kuwait Orders Closure of Iranian School

Kuwaiti authorities have ordered the closure of a local Iranian school, a source from the Ministry of Education told AFP on Thursday.

The decision comes after Iran launched repeated attacks on Kuwait in the midst of the Middle East conflict.

Although the ministry source did not specify the reason for the closure, officials had taken similar action against schools and hospitals affiliated with the Iranian government when the UAE went to war.

Gulf countries have borne the brunt of Tehran’s attacks during the conflict, with Kuwait and Bahrain being particularly affected since the US-Iran ceasefire collapsed in recent weeks.

Following repeated attacks on power and desalination plants in Kuwait, officials last month urged residents to conserve electricity.

The Minister of Education has decided to revoke the educational license of the private Iranian school and close it, according to the decision obtained by AFP.

Enrollment for the upcoming academic year has been suspended, and the ministry has urged parents to transfer their children to other schools, the decision stated.

According to Kuwaiti staff and members of the Iranian community, the UAE had ordered the closure of an Iran-affiliated hospital in Dubai in March and at least four Iranian schools were also shut down.

Some institutions directly affiliated with the Iranian regime and the IRGC will be targeted and closed, a UAE official told AFP at the time, citing violations of UAE law.
