Abhishek Giri, a man with a criminal background, has been arrested again after being released on bail from Kathmandu District Court. Giri was released on Thursday after paying a bail of Rs 5 million, but was immediately taken into custody by the Morang police.
According to Morang Police Chief SP Kavita Katwal, Giri was arrested in Kathmandu and brought to Biratnagar on charges of criminal benefit. Katwal said that an investigation into the charges will continue in Morang.
Giri, 48, from Ward 8 of Biratnagar Metropolitan City, was accused of cheating and criminal breach of trust by construction businessman Subash Shrestha. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police had arrested Giri on August 23, 2023, on charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust.
Earlier, Giri was arrested on August 13, 2023, on charges of misusing prisoner allowances in Morang Jail. After being released on bail, the CIB arrested him again on August 23, 2023. The CIB had concluded that Giri had cheated Rs 21.32 million.
Based on the CIB’s report, the Kathmandu District Government Attorney’s Office had filed a case against Giri in the Kathmandu District Court on August 14, 2023. The court had ordered Giri’s release on bail of Rs 5 million, but he was arrested again after paying the bail amount.
