Jokh Bahadur Mahara Appointed CM of Lumbini Province

KATHMANDU, NEPAL – Jokh Bahadur Mahara, parliamentary party leader of the CPN-Maoist Center for Lumbini Province, has been appointed as the new Chief Minister. Province Chief Amik Sherchan administered Mahara’s appointment under Article 168(2) of the Constitution.

Mahara’s appointment is backed by a strong coalition of 48 members in the Provincial Assembly. This coalition includes support from 29 CPN-UML members, 10 Maoist Center members, 4 Nagarik Unmukti Party members, 3 Janata Samajbadi Party members, 1 CPN-Unified Socialist member, and 1 independent member.

The Office of the Province Chief confirms that the swearing-in ceremony for newly appointed Chief Minister Mahara will take place on Sunday.
