Woman Dies After Surgery at KG Hospital in Dhangadhi

A 50-year-old woman, Samani Chaudhary, died on Thursday at KG Hospital in Dhangadhi after undergoing surgery for kidney stones.

Chaudhary, a resident of Krishnapur Municipality-1 in Kanchanpur, was admitted to the hospital on Thursday morning and underwent surgery as per the doctor’s advice. However, she died a few hours later while in the ICU.

Her relatives staged a protest outside the hospital from Friday morning, demanding compensation and action against the doctor involved. The hospital and the relatives later reached a settlement of 22 lakh rupees.

According to hospital sources, Chaudhary’s son, Sunil Chaudhary, was given 2 lakh rupees in cash and a check for the remaining 20 lakh rupees, which he can withdraw 5 lakh rupees every month.

However, an investigation revealed that the doctor involved in the surgery, Dr. Arun Pande, had violated the rules by working at a private hospital while being on a government scholarship.

Doctor’s Violation of Rules

Dr. Pande, a urologist, is a government scholar who has been working at Seti Provincial Hospital since Chait 17, 2081. His contract period is set to expire on Chait 16. According to the government’s rules, specialists on scholarship are not allowed to work at private health institutions during their contract period.

The rules state that specialists on scholarship cannot provide medical services at private institutions during their contract period. If they do, their license can be suspended.

KG Hospital is a private hospital, and Dr. Pande’s involvement in the surgery is a clear violation of the government’s rules.

Investigation and Action

The health office in Kailali has stated that the incident will be investigated, and necessary action will be taken. The office has already directed private hospitals in Dhangadhi not to hire doctors on government scholarships.

‘We have been directing private hospitals in Dhangadhi not to hire doctors on government scholarships, but KG Hospital has violated this rule,’ said Ramesh Kunwar, chief of the health office. ‘Necessary action will be taken against the hospital and the doctor involved.’
