Nepal Teachers Union Announces New Protest Amid Unfulfilled Demands

Nepal Teachers Union has announced a new protest, which is expected to be larger than previous ones, as the government has failed to implement agreements reached with the union.

According to Laxmikishor Suvedi, the president of the Nepal Teachers Union, the protest date will be announced soon. Suvedi stated that the union has been protesting for over seven years, and despite reaching agreements with the government, the implementation of those agreements has been lacking.

The union has been demanding the implementation of a nine-point agreement reached with the government in 2082 BS, which includes the provision of local allowances to teachers working in remote areas. However, the government has yet to implement this agreement.

Demands of the Nepal Teachers Union

The union is demanding the implementation of several agreements, including the provision of local allowances to teachers working in remote areas, the regularization of temporary teachers, and the increase of scholarships and stipends for students.

The union is also demanding the allocation of 20% of the total budget for education, as per the country’s commitment to international forums. Additionally, the union is seeking the implementation of free and compulsory education up to the secondary level, as enshrined in the constitution.

The union has also expressed dissatisfaction with the recent amendment to the education regulations and is seeking the removal of certain provisions that it deems unfavorable to teachers and students.
