The former Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of the Butwal Area Police Office, Thag Bahadur KC, has been convicted in a corruption case by a special court. The verdict, delivered by a joint bench comprising Justices Tek Narayan Kunwar, Tej Narayan Singh Rai, and Ritendra Thapa on Tuesday, sentenced KC to two years in prison along with a fine of 8 lakh rupees.

During his tenure in Butwal, the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority discovered cash and gold in DSP KC’s residence. Subsequently, a corruption case was filed against him on September 9 last year, alleging a loss of 18 lakh rupees. The prosecution asserted that KC failed to report acquiring 34 tolas, 21 lal, and 7 points of gold from Butwal sub-metropolitan city-5 near Hatbazar on December 11, 2022.

Despite being requested to document the return of the gold, KC allegedly retained it without informing the office. Furthermore, the authority accused KC of accepting a bribe of Rs. 18 lakh from two individuals.

In a related development, Khilendra Singh GC from Butwal, who was implicated in altering his testimony in court against KC, was also found guilty by the special court. GC was sentenced to 1.5 years in prison and fined Rs 950,000. The authority had presented GC, a resident of Butwal sub-metropolitan city-4 Lakshminagar, as a government witness. However, the prosecution claimed that GC changed his statement in court in an attempt to secure KC’s acquittal.

The special court upheld the prosecution’s assertion, ruling GC guilty of tampering with evidence.
