Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has refused to accept the Rs 2 crore budget allocated by the government for the repair and conservation of the Koirala Residence in Biratnagar.
The government had allocated Rs 2 crore in the budget for the fiscal year 2083/84 for the repair and conservation of the Koirala Residence. However, Dr. Koirala has declined to accept the amount, citing moral reasons.
In a letter addressed to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation on August 20, Dr. Koirala expressed his gratitude for the budget allocation for the conservation of the birthplace of BP Koirala, the first democratically elected Prime Minister and leader of the democratic movement.
The Koirala Residence, built by Krishna Prasad Koirala nearly a century ago, was set on fire during the Jana Andolan movement. Located in Ward 7 of Biratnagar Metropolitan City, the residence is a significant historical landmark.
