Seven Madhes-Centric and Leftist Parties Form New Alliance in Nepal

Seven Madhes-centric and leftist parties in Nepal are forming a new alliance, dubbed the ‘Aggressive Front’, in an effort to regain lost political influence and voter trust.

The parties, which include the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, Janamat Party, Nagarik Unmukti Party Nepal, Pragatishil Lokatantrik Party, Nepal Sanghiya Samajbadi Party, Aam Janata Party, and Bahujan Ekta Party, are set to announce the alliance on 23 Shrawan in Kathmandu.

According to leaders of the participating parties, the alliance aims to promote federalism, inclusive democracy, social justice, and identity issues. They claim that the current government’s actions are anti-progressive and that an alternative political force is needed to address the country’s problems.

Challenges Ahead

However, critics argue that the alliance is merely a desperate attempt by old leaders to cling to power. They point out that the parties involved have a history of infighting and conflicting ideologies, which could hinder the alliance’s progress.

Moreover, the parties’ poor performance in the last election, where none of them secured a seat in the direct or proportional representation, raises questions about their ability to make a significant impact.

The alliance’s success will depend on its ability to overcome these challenges and present a united front. As one leader noted, the real test of the alliance will not be its announcement, but its ability to regain lost voter trust and deliver results.
