A senior doctor, Nutan Sharma, who was accused of involvement in the egg trafficking case of a 17-year-old girl, has been released after giving a statement to the police.
Dr. Sharma, a renowned gynecologist and IVF specialist, was questioned by the police at the District Government Attorney’s Office in Lalitpur on Thursday.
According to SP Gautam Mishra of the Lalitpur District Police, Dr. Sharma denied any wrongdoing in her statement, saying that she had not done anything illegal and that all procedures were done with the necessary approvals.
‘I have not done anything against the law. Everything was done with the necessary approvals,’ Dr. Sharma said in her statement.
After giving her statement, Dr. Sharma was released on bail, as per the instructions of the District Government Attorney’s Office.
Background of the Case
The case involves the egg trafficking of a 17-year-old girl, who was allegedly lured by a woman named Radhika Gotame with promises of money.
Gotame was arrested by the police and later released on bail. It is alleged that she acted as a middleman between the victim and Dr. Sharma’s IVF center.
Evidence of financial transactions between Dr. Sharma and Gotame has been found, with Dr. Sharma allegedly sending Gotame Rs 50,000 on two separate occasions.
The victim had earlier filed a complaint against Dr. Sharma, alleging that she was involved in the egg trafficking case. However, no arrest warrant was issued against Dr. Sharma at the time.
Dr. Sharma had been abroad but returned to Nepal and gave a statement to the police, after which she was released.
