Newly elected candidates to the National Assembly (NA) in the January 25 election will take their oaths today, officially beginning their tenure.
The members are Krishna Sitaula of the Nepali Congress from Koshi Province, Rukmini Koirala of CPN-UML, Puja Chaudhary of Janata Samajwadi Party, and Ananda Dhungana of the Nepali Congress from Madhes.
Other lawmakers are Bishnu Devi Pudasaini and Jitjung Basnet of the Nepali Congress from Bagmati; Shree Krishna Prasad Adhikari of the Maoist Centre; Ghanshyam Rizal of the Unified Socialist; and Manrupa Sharma of the Maoist from Gandaki.
Padma Bahadur Pariyar and Kiran Babu Shrestha of the Nepali Congress are also taking the oath.
Other oath-takers include Bishnu Kumari Sapkota of Nepali Congress and Jhakku Prasad Subedi of Maoist Centre from Lumbini, Sabitri Malla of Unified Socialist from Karnali, Bishnu Bahadur Bishwakarma and Krishna Bahadur Rokai of Maoist Centre, and Baldev Bohara of Nepali Congress from Sudurpaschim province.
The freshly elected National Assembly members include eight UML members, four Congress members, three Maoist members, two Unified Socialist Party members, and one each from JSP, nominated, and independent candidates.
The former Speaker of the National Assembly, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, and 20 other MPs, including those elected earlier, finished their tenure yesterday. Earlier, it was scheduled to end on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly is preparing to elect a new Speaker, as the current office will be empty beginning March 3.
The election to fill this position is slated for March 12.
