Nepal’s President Ram Chandra Paudel has emphasized that free and impartial journalism is not possible without democracy.
Speaking at an event in Lalitpur on Wednesday, where the list of ’40 under 40′ young people in online news was made public, President Paudel said that the country’s constitution guarantees full press freedom and freedom of expression.
He stated that a free, impartial, and fact-based journalism, as well as a civic society that can engage in fact-based discussions and questioning, are essential for a vibrant democracy.
‘Our constitution guarantees full press freedom and freedom of expression,’ President Paudel said. ‘A free, impartial, and fact-based journalism, as well as a civic society that can engage in fact-based discussions and questioning, are what make democracy vibrant. We must not forget that free and impartial journalism is not possible without democracy.’
He emphasized that all aspects of the state must internalize this principle and move forward accordingly.
