Nepal’s National Planning Commission to Coordinate with Local Governments on Food System Transformation

The National Planning Commission has initiated efforts to collect information on the implementation of the Food System Transformation Strategic Plan in coordination with local governments.

The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation has requested all local governments to provide necessary information and facilitate the process.

The commission has stated that the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 is a shared responsibility of all three tiers of government.

The Food System Transformation Strategic Plan encompasses various aspects, including food production, consumption, nutrition, sanitation, agricultural infrastructure, market value chain of agricultural products, and climate-resilient agricultural systems.

The plan is considered a key document in supporting the achievement of the SDGs.

According to the commission, the National Steering Committee formed under the strategic plan had directed all ministries, departments, and agencies to implement the plan in the upcoming fiscal year during its meeting on Ashar 22, 2083.

The committee had also instructed that the progress and achievements of the implementation be regularly reported to the secretariat.

The National Planning Commission serves as the secretariat of the steering committee.

The commission has reminded that it is required to submit a consolidated report of the efforts and achievements in the field of food system transformation at the local level to the UN Food System Coordination Hub on a regular basis.

All local governments are required to collect information in the prescribed format and submit it to the commission.
