Nepali Congress Unity and Justice for Victims Possible After Supreme Court Ruling

Nepali Congress leader Meen Vishwakarma has hailed the Supreme Court’s latest decision, saying it has paved the way for the party’s unity and justice for the victims.

On Thursday, the court allowed a review of its previous verdict on the party’s legitimacy, prompting Vishwakarma to welcome the decision as a positive step towards unity and justice.

‘Today’s Supreme Court decision is welcome,’ Vishwakarma wrote on Facebook, ‘It has started the process of unity in the Nepali Congress party and justice for the victims.’

The court, comprising Chief Justice Dr. Manoj Sharma and judges Nityananda Pandey and Shrikant Paudel, has allowed a review of its previous decision, which had recognized the legitimacy of the party’s special general convention.

If the previous decision is overturned, the demands of the dissatisfied group within the party will be met, and the special general convention will not be recognized. On the other hand, if the previous decision is upheld, the special general convention will be recognized.

Earlier, a bench of judges Sharanga Subedi and Nripdhvaj Niraula had recognized the legitimacy of the party’s special general convention, which had elected Gagan Thapa as its president on Baisakh 4.

The petition filed by the Deuba faction was rejected at that time. Deuba had filed a review petition on Shrawan 7, seeking a review of the decision.
