Nepali Congress to Field at Least 100 Women as Candidates in Local Elections

Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has announced that the party is preparing to field at least 100 women as candidates for the top positions in the upcoming local elections, which will be held in 753 municipalities across the country.

Speaking at the second national convention of the Nepal Loktantravadi Adivasi Janajati Mahasangh, Thapa stated that the party aims to make itself fully inclusive by ensuring equal participation from all communities.

He also revealed that the party plans to provide special training to elected representatives to enable them to effectively govern, in addition to competing in the elections.

During the event, Thapa urged the leadership of the Adivasi Janajati Mahasangh to identify capable individuals who are interested in taking on leadership roles at the local and provincial levels and to join the party’s initiative.

He emphasized, ‘We want to train and prepare our candidates for mayor, deputy mayor, and ward chairperson positions in the coming days. Having the right intention alone is not enough for leadership. Individuals who hold public office need to have a basic understanding of the law, public policy, public finance, and effective management of limited resources.’

Thapa added that the party will select capable candidates for the upcoming elections based on recommendations from the organization.
