Nepal Police Launch Special Drive to Reduce Road Accidents

A special drive to reduce road accidents has been launched by the Nepal Police, with Deputy Inspector General Shekhar Khanal directing the operation. The initiative aims to minimize accidents on the roads, particularly those caused by speeding, overloading, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

During an inspection at the Highway Security and Traffic Management Office in Itahari, Sunsari, DIG Khanal instructed the traffic police to take strict action against vehicles violating traffic rules. He emphasized the need for effective daily traffic checks and the use of modern technology, such as radar guns, CCTV cameras, and breathalyzers, to manage traffic and prevent accidents.

DIG Khanal also directed the traffic police to ensure that long-distance vehicles have two drivers, correct fare rates, and proper seat reservations, and that they operate according to the time card system. He stressed the importance of checking these aspects strictly to reduce road accidents.

Furthermore, DIG Khanal urged the traffic police to be polite and courteous while checking vehicles, avoiding any inconvenience to the public. The inspection was attended by various police officials, including Senior Superintendent of Police Deepak Giri, who briefed DIG Khanal on the traffic situation in the Koshi Province.
