Nepal Parliament Asks Government to Clarify Trauma Center Plans

Nepal’s parliament has asked the government to clarify its plans for a national-level trauma center in Dhalkebar, a major hub in Madhes Province.

The issue was raised during a parliamentary session when opposition party members stood up to protest the government’s alleged U-turn on its earlier plan to build the trauma center in Dhalkebar.

Dr. Chandramohan Yadav, a Nepali Congress MP, was given time to speak by Speaker DOL Prasad Aryal after opposition party members stood up at the start of the session. Dr. Yadav expressed his dissatisfaction with the government’s decision, saying that Dhalkebar is a central location in Madhes Province with a large population and is situated along the highway, making it an ideal location for a national-level trauma center.

He claimed that previous governments had planned to build the trauma center in Dhalkebar and that the current government should not deviate from this plan. Dr. Yadav said he would remain silent until the government provided a clear answer.

Other opposition party MPs, including those from the main opposition party, also stood up to draw attention to the issue, prompting ruling party MPs to raise a point of order. MPs from the Rastriya Swatantra Party protested the opposition’s style of standing up at the start of the session to raise their issue, saying that they should be allowed to speak at the designated time.

Manish Khandal, an MP from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, requested the Speaker to put an end to the opposition’s practice of standing up at the start of the session to protest. Despite this, Dr. Yadav remained standing, prompting Speaker Aryal to request him to take his seat and maintain the dignity of the House.

Dr. Yadav was again given time to speak by the Speaker, and he reiterated his demand for a clear answer from the government on whether it plans to build the trauma center in Dhalkebar or not.
