The government has approved a new salary scale for civil servants, with the chief secretary set to receive the highest monthly salary of 90,594 rupees.

The new salary scale, recommended by the Ministry of Finance, was approved by the Council of Ministers and sent for implementation. The Ministry of Finance had submitted the new salary scale on Shrawan 6, 2083, and it was approved by the Council of Ministers after about 15 days.

According to the new salary scale, the chief secretary will receive the highest monthly salary, while the lowest salary will be 28,984 rupees for a first-level office assistant. The monthly salary of the chief of the Nepal Army will also be 90,594 rupees, the same as the chief secretary. The monthly salary of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Nepal Police will be 85,576 rupees.

The government had earlier decided to increase the salary of civil servants by 10% from the current fiscal year. It had also decided to provide an additional 10% of the incentive allowance and to increase the pension of retirees by 10%.
