Jay Nepal Party Mulls Election Symbol Amid Merger Talks

The newly formed Jay Nepal Party, led by Dr. Dhawal Shamsher Rana and Durga Poudel, is considering three options for its election symbol ahead of its registration with the Election Commission on August 28.

According to party sources, the options include a triangle, a house, and a greeting symbol, with the latter being the most likely choice.

The party’s central office chief, Sagun Lavati, confirmed that discussions are ongoing and that a decision will be made by August 27.

Lavati stated, ‘We will register the party on August 28. Discussions will continue until August 27. It’s not like all possibilities have been exhausted.’

Merger Talks with Nepal Loktantrik Party

The Jay Nepal Party has been in talks with the Nepal Loktantrik Party, led by Geeta Rana, for a possible merger.

However, the merger has been delayed due to the need to accommodate several central members from the Nepal Loktantrik Party.

Lavati acknowledged that the merger talks are ongoing but emphasized that the possibility of adopting the Nepal Loktantrik Party’s election symbol, the greeting symbol, has not been entirely ruled out.

Party Formation and Objectives

The Jay Nepal Party has been formed with the objective of creating a major party that can challenge the existing parties in the country.

However, some party leaders have expressed concerns about the lack of representation of women and youth in the party’s leadership.

Ranjan Karki, a party leader, emphasized the need for a party that is youth- and women-friendly, with a digital-friendly approach and a disability-accessible office.

Karki stated, ‘Where women and youth are friendly, 60% should be in leadership. And, the work style should be the latest, a digital-friendly party.’

Another party leader, Anjana Shah Rawal, expressed her disappointment on social media about the lack of representation of women and youth in the party’s leadership.

Rawal questioned the need for forming a new party, citing the lack of clarity on the party’s objectives and the leadership’s approach.
