Nepal Doctor and Nurse Attacked in Hospital Over Video Game Dispute

A doctor and a nurse were attacked by a group of people at a hospital in Nepal’s Kalikot district, allegedly over a dispute about playing video games on their mobile phones.

According to Dr. Ali Haider, the medical officer at the hospital, the incident occurred on Shrawan 22, 2083, at around 1:50 pm. Dr. Haider said that a group of locals, including a woman named Maina Bam and her two sons, attacked him and nurse Shanta Giri.

The hospital’s administration chief, Senior Aheb Janma Rishee Nyoupane, said that the attackers were angry because Dr. Haider and nurse Giri had asked them to stop playing video games on their mobile phones in the hospital’s OPD area.

Nyoupane said that the attackers had been using the hospital’s Wi-Fi to play games, and when Dr. Haider and nurse Giri asked them to leave, they became aggressive and attacked the medical staff.

Dr. Haider alleged that the attackers had planned the assault in advance, using the pretext of playing video games to gain access to the hospital. He also claimed that the attackers had been harassing hospital staff in various ways, including leaving animal waste in the hospital and threatening them.

Nyoupane said that the hospital staff had been facing harassment from locals, who would often threaten them and prevent them from leaving the hospital premises.

Dr. Haider and nurse Giri suffered injuries in the attack, including bruises on their faces and heads. Dr. Haider has filed a complaint with the local police station, demanding action against the attackers.
