A case has been filed against 11 officials, including the mayor and chief administrative officer of Aathabis Municipality in Rukum West, Nepal, for allegedly embezzling over Rs 1.71 crore in government grants.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed the case at the Special Court on Thursday, accusing the officials of misusing the grants meant for the development of the dairy industry in the region.
Allegations of Embezzlement
According to the CIAA, the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives of the Karnali Province government had allocated Rs 91.17 lakh to the Aathabis Dugdh Sahakari Sanstha Ltd, a cooperative society in Rukum West, for the construction of a chilling center.
However, the CIAA alleged that the cooperative society had not utilized the funds for the intended purpose and had instead misused them. The society had also received an additional Rs 80.23 lakh from the Aathabis Municipality for the purchase of a tanker and two vehicles, which were not used for the intended purpose.
Accused Officials
The accused officials include Mayor Ravi Keshi, Chief Administrative Officer Maniraj Shah, and nine other officials from the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives, the Aathabis Municipality, and the cooperative society.
The CIAA has demanded that the accused officials return the embezzled amount and face action under the Corruption Prevention Act, 2059.
