Lumbini Marks Hiroshima Day with Candlelight Vigil and Tree Plantation

Hiroshima Day was commemorated in Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, with a candlelight vigil and tree plantation on 22 Shrawan, 2083.

The Lumbini World Peace Forum organized the ‘Candle Light Vigil and World Peace Prayer’ at the sacred garden of Lumbini, where a tribute was paid to the victims of the atomic bombing in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.

The event aimed to spread the message of world peace, non-violence, and nuclear disarmament from the birthplace of Gautam Buddha.

Tree Plantation in Siddharthanagar

In Siddharthanagar, 200 trees of different species were planted for urban greening.

The Lumbini World Peace Forum, in collaboration with the Siddharthanagar Municipality, planted 200 flowers and trees, including 100 Ashar flowers and 100 Bognbhil trees, on the median island of the Siddharth Highway in Bhairahawa.

The tree plantation aimed to expand greenery in the urban area, enhance the beauty of the road, and contribute to environmental conservation.

Tree Plantation at World Peace Stupa

Eight trees were also planted at the World Peace Stupa (Peace Pagoda) in Lumbini, symbolizing the eightfold path of Arya Ashtangika Marg as preached by Gautam Buddha.

The events organized on Hiroshima Day have linked peace and environmental conservation as a single campaign.

Speakers, including Siddharthanagar Municipality Chief Ishtiyak Ahmad Khan and Lumbini Hotel Association Nepal President Lilamani Sharma Paudel, recalled the human losses caused by nuclear war and expressed their opposition to violence and war, promoting peace and world peace messages along with environmental conservation and greenery expansion as a foundation for peace.
