Kuwait Orders Closure of Iranian School Amid Regional Tensions

Kuwait City – The Kuwaiti government has ordered the closure of the only Iranian school in the country, citing security and legal concerns.

A source at the Ministry of Education confirmed the decision to AFP on Thursday, stating that it was made in response to repeated attacks by Iran on Kuwait.

The ministry did not provide further details on the reasons behind the closure, but it is understood that the move is part of increased surveillance on institutions linked to the Iranian government.

Regional Tensions Escalate

This decision comes amid heightened regional tensions, particularly between the US and Iran, following the breakdown of a ceasefire agreement.

Iranian attacks on Kuwait’s power plants and water desalination facilities have increased in recent weeks, prompting the government to urge citizens to conserve electricity last month.

According to the Ministry of Education’s decision, the Iranian school’s educational license has been revoked, and the institution has been ordered to close.

Additionally, new student admissions for the upcoming academic year have been suspended, and parents have been advised to transfer their children to other schools.

Similar Actions in UAE

In March, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ordered the closure of an Iranian hospital in Dubai and at least four Iranian schools, citing concerns over their links to the Iranian government and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

An UAE official stated at the time that targeted actions were taken against institutions with direct ties to the Iranian regime, which were found to be violating UAE laws.
