KOLKATA – Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) clinched a nail-biting four-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in a pulsating IPL 2024 encounter at Eden Gardens on Saturday. Andre Russell’s blistering all-round display and a gutsy final over from Harshit Rana were the key factors in Kolkata’s heart-stopping triumph.
Chasing a mammoth 209 for victory, Hyderabad’s hopes seemed dashed until Heinrich Klaasen exploded for a blistering 63 off just 29 balls. He smashed Rana for a six off the first ball of the final over, Hyderabad needing 13 to win. However, Rana struck back with the wickets of Klaasen and Shahbaz Ahmed within three deliveries, dramatically shifting the momentum.
With four runs needed off the last ball, Hyderabad’s skipper Pat Cummins couldn’t find the boundary, sparking wild celebrations from Kolkata. Earlier, Russell’s whirlwind 64 off 25 balls propelled Kolkata to 208/7, earning him the ‘Player of the Match’ award. Hyderabad’s valiant chase ultimately fell just short, finishing at 204/7.
