Janakpur Fish Centre Produces Over 4.38 Million Fingerlings

Janakpur-based Fish Human Resource Development and Technology Testing Centre has produced over 4.38 million fingerlings in a year.

According to centre chief Gyan Bahadur Jirel, the centre produced 4.38 million hatchlings, 3.2 million fry fingerlings, 1.38 million fingerlings, and 2,053 kg of edible fish in the fiscal year 2082/83, generating revenue of Rs 3.435 million from fingerling sales.

The centre also earned Rs 324,300 from the recovery of government property and Rs 59,000 from other administrative services.

Fish farmers from districts including Dhanusha, Siraha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara, Parsa, Kathmandu, Sindhuli, Ramechhap, Dolakha, and Sunsari have been purchasing fingerlings produced by the centre.

The centre has been producing fingerlings of various fish species, including rohu, naini, bhakur, common carp, silver carp, bighead carp, and grass carp.

In the previous fiscal year, the centre had produced 4.75 million hatchlings, 3.26 million fry fingerlings, 1.26 million fingerlings, and 2,000 kg of edible fish.

The centre has been providing training and technical knowledge to private hatchery operators.

Established in 2018, the centre has 78 fish ponds, of which 19 are currently not in use.
