Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has visited ailing CPN-UML leader JN Thapa at Bir Hospital in Kathmandu.

Thapa, who is the leader of the CPN-UML parliamentary party in Bagmati Province, has been undergoing treatment at the hospital since August 18.

He was taken ill after a meeting with CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli at his residence in Balkot, where discussions were held on the formation of the Bagmati Province government.

During the meeting, Oli and other leaders reportedly told Thapa that he was not suitable for the post of chief minister, which left him emotional and caused him to faint.

Thapa was initially taken to Madhyapur Thimi Hospital and later transferred to Bir Hospital the next day.

He has been suffering from diabetes, according to sources.
