A search operation is underway for former mayor of Kapilvastu municipality, Kiran Singh, who has been missing since Friday. The police have deployed a trained dog from the Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa to aid in the search.
According to Kapilvastu police chief (SP) Manohar Bhatta, the search team, including a tracking dog, has been scouring the jungle area in Gorusinge. ‘We have also used drones to monitor some areas,’ SP Bhatta said.
However, despite the ongoing search efforts, Singh’s whereabouts remain unknown. The 65-year-old former mayor was last seen leaving his home in Kapilvastu-3 around 2 am on Friday. He had informed some of his acquaintances over the phone that he had lost his way in the jungle around 3:30 am.
When his family and relatives went searching for him, they found his motorcycle, with license plate number Lu. Pa. 01-013 Pa 7970, parked on the side of the road, about 8 kilometers inside the jungle area along the East-West Highway. CCTV footage from the Sunshine Social Development Center in Chetdarai shows Singh reaching the Ramraj Bridge around 3:27 pm on Friday. His whereabouts after that are unknown.
Investigation Underway
SP Bhatta said that all possible angles of investigation are being explored. Initially, it was suspected that Singh might have gotten lost while on his way to his farm, where he was building a poultry farm and a fish pond. However, the police are also looking into other possible leads.
‘We are monitoring the area where he was reported missing, and at the same time, we are also exploring other possibilities,’ SP Bhatta said. ‘I have received several tips from local sources, and I am also in close contact with his family. We are working on various technical aspects as well.’
