The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has extended the deadline for filing the September 2026 Electronic Challan-cum-Return (ECR) from October 15 to October 31. The additional time allows employers to review payroll records and ensure that provident fund contributions comply with the applicable requirements.
The extension comes after the reported revision of the EPF wage ceiling from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000, notified on September 17. Employers must verify how the revised ceiling applies to their employees before submitting the monthly return.
Why Is September 2026 PF Filing Different?
The Electronic Challan-cum-Return is a monthly submission containing employee-wise wage and contribution information under the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF), Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS) and Employees’ Deposit-Linked Insurance (EDLI) scheme.

The September filing requires additional scrutiny because the reported wage ceiling revision took place during the month. Employers should review the applicable provisions and determine how the change affects individual employees and contribution calculations.
