Nancy Guthrie Case Latest Update Today: Investigators searching for Nancy Guthrie, the missing mother of Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, may soon reduce the number of personnel dedicated to the case as several key leads remain unresolved, ABC News reported Friday, citing sources familiar with the investigation.
Nearly three weeks after the 84-year-old disappeared, investigators have yet to identify the partial DNA recovered from her home, obtain additional footage from her home security system or link a vehicle to her reported abduction, according to law enforcement sources cited by ABC News.
Although the investigation could move towards a smaller, long-term task force, authorities have stressed that the case remains active. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said several hundred personnel from multiple law enforcement agencies continue to review thousands of tips and follow up on leads.

Nancy Guthrie Case Latest Update: Investigators May Reduce Search Resources
Sources familiar with the investigation told ABC News that the lack of recent breakthroughs could prompt authorities to transition from an intensive, round-the-clock operation to a more sustainable investigative structure.
The sheriff’s department has previously said approximately 400 investigators were assigned to the case and working around the clock. The potential reduction would involve fewer dedicated personnel, with a smaller task force continuing to pursue leads over the longer term.
The reported possibility of a change in staffing does not mean the investigation is ending. Authorities have not announced that the case is being closed or that a final decision to reduce resources has been made.
The Guthrie family has reportedly been briefed on the possibility of a transition and informed that some investigative leads have not produced the expected results, according to the sources cited by ABC News.
Pima County Sheriff’s Department Says Nancy Guthrie Investigation Remains Active
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has maintained that investigators will continue to pursue credible information about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
In a statement cited by ABC News, the department said: “This remains an active investigation. As long as leads continue to come in, investigators will continue to follow up on them.”
The department added that several hundred personnel from different law enforcement agencies were actively reviewing thousands of tips.
Rich Frankel, an ABC News contributor who previously oversaw hostage negotiations at the FBI, said investigations of this nature may eventually require a longer-term staffing arrangement.
“It has been over two weeks, and, in these types of investigations, you have to at one point move on to a long-term sustainable level of manpower,” Frankel said, adding, “It is not a closed case.”
His comments underscore the distinction between reducing the number of investigators assigned full-time and ending efforts to find the missing woman.
Nancy Guthrie DNA Evidence: Partial Profile Still Under Analysis
