Senior anesthesiologist Dr. Ashish Govind Amatya has been appointed as the director of Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre. Dr. Amatya, who has been working at the centre for a long time, is an experienced doctor in anesthesia for heart surgery.
Dr. Amatya was born in Kupandol, Lalitpur, and completed his primary education at St. Xavier’s School. He then attended Budhanilkantha School and later graduated from The Lawrence School in Simla, India. He obtained his MBBS degree from Bangladesh Medical College (Dhaka University) in 2002.
After completing his MBBS, Dr. Amatya worked as an intern at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for a year and later as a medical officer at the same hospital for about a year. He then pursued his MD in Anesthesiology from Maharajgunj Medical Campus.
Dr. Amatya joined Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre as a registrar and has been working there continuously since his permanent appointment. He completed a one-year fellowship in cardiac anesthesia in Malaysia after serving at the centre for four years.
Dr. Amatya has been the head of the cardiac anesthesia department at the centre for seven years and has made significant contributions to the expansion of anesthesia services, production of skilled manpower, and making complex heart surgeries safe and effective.
