Cristiano Ronaldo has been provisionally suspended by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) as revealed in their latest official statement after disciplinary proceedings were opened over his departure from the national team camp, Portuguese media reported on Saturday.
The 41-year-old forward left Portugal’s squad base in Copenhagen ahead of the team’s Nations League match against Denmark last week, following a reported rift with head coach Jorge Jesus. According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, the federation confirmed that disciplinary proceedings had been initiated and that the case would be handled urgently.
The latest development comes after Ronaldo apologised on Tuesday for leaving his teammates and failing to acknowledge supporters following Portugal’s match against Norway. He also said he would remain available for selection after serving any punishment arising from the incident, Reuters reported.
