Students in Biratnagar staged a protest on Sunday morning, demanding the release of six students who were arrested in Rangeli on Friday.

The demonstration turned violent as a group of students set a government vehicle belonging to the State Planning Commission (registration number Ko 1 Jha 644) ablaze in front of the Mahendra Morang Adarsh Multipurpose Campus.

Police reported that five other government vehicles were also vandalized during the protest.

The arrested students were reportedly involved in an incident at the Rangali municipality office earlier this week. The students accused a private school of illegal fee collection and arbitrary teacher selection, prompting them to confront the municipal police.

Authorities have not released details regarding the extent of the damage or if there were any injuries sustained during the protest. The demand for the students’ release remains unresolved.
