Gandaki Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey has expanded his cabinet. Following his appointment as Chief Minister on Wednesday, Pandey designated Congress MP Bindu Kumar Thapa as the Minister of Social Development. Thapa is scheduled to take the oath of office on the same day.
Thapa, who serves as the deputy leader of Congress’s Gandaki State Assembly Parliamentary Party, previously held the position of Law Minister in the cabinet led by Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokharel during the last term of the State Assembly. He had sought a ministerial role in the current Pandey-led government.
Although there were discussions about appointing Thapa as the Finance Minister, Congress sources have indicated that Chief Minister Pandey will retain this key ministry himself to outmaneuver the RPP.
