300 Children Killed in Gaza Since October, UNICEF Reports

New York. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has reported that at least 300 children have been killed in the Gaza Strip in the past 300 days since the ceasefire was implemented in October.

Edward Beigbeder, UNICEF’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, stated that despite the ongoing ceasefire, an average of one child has lost their life every day. He added that hundreds of other children have been injured, many of whom are in critical condition.

According to UNICEF, families are currently confined to nearly one-third of the Gaza Strip’s territory, living in damaged buildings, rubble, and areas contaminated with solid waste. Children across the Gaza Strip are facing severe malnutrition, disease, unsafe drinking water, and damaged sanitation systems.

UNICEF has called on all parties involved to uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law and international law. The agency emphasized the need to ensure the safety of children, provide access to essential services such as healthcare, education, safe drinking water, and food, and facilitate safe, rapid, and unimpeded humanitarian access to affected children.
