Woman Killed, Husband Injured in Jhapa Elephant Attack

A 60-year-old woman, Pabitra Bhetuwal, died after a wild elephant attacked her in the Ratuwamai Plantation Project forest, located in Shivasatakshi-11, Jhapa. Bhetuwal was collecting firewood on Wednesday evening.

Her husband, 62-year-old Dilip Bhetuwal, sustained injuries in the attack and is receiving treatment at Purnatung Virta City Hospital. His mouth, hands, and other body parts were injured.

This marks the fifth fatal elephant attack in the Jhapa district since July. Residents are concerned as further incidents have included an elephant destroying houses and damaging crops.
