Cyclists staged a five-minute protest before the start of the Giro di Lombardia on Saturday, October 10, to raise concerns about rider safety following a series of incidents involving race vehicles. Belgium’s double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel spoke on behalf of the peloton, warning that riders could no longer accept the repeated incidents that have left cyclists injured and, in some cases, dead.
The demonstration delayed the start of the final Monument race of the 2026 cycling season by five minutes. The protest came days after Thomas Gloag and Marcel Camprubi were struck by a police motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction during Tre Valli Varesine.
