Underground Power Cables Being Laid in Chitwan National Park

An underground power cable project is underway in Chitwan National Park, covering an area of eight kilometers. The Nepal Electricity Authority’s Bagmati Province Division Office has signed a contract with a company to lay the cables, which will facilitate the flow of 25 megawatts of electricity.

The project, which is estimated to cost around Rs 17.86 crore, is being implemented by Sharda and Sumnima, a company that has been working on the project. According to the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Bagmati Province Division Office, the new underground power cables are being laid to replace the old ones, which had been causing problems.

The old underground power cables, which had a capacity of eight megawatts, had been causing problems from time to time, said Jitendra Kumar Jha, chief of the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Bagmati Province Division Office. He added that the new underground power cables are being laid in a new location, rather than in the old one.

According to Jha, the new underground power cables will be able to facilitate the flow of 25 megawatts of electricity, which will help to solve the problem of power outages in the area. He added that the contractor company has completed the mapping work for the underground power cables and is in the process of purchasing the necessary materials.

The work on the project is expected to gain momentum once the rainy season is over, said Jha. The Nepal Electricity Authority’s Chanuali Distribution Center has been supplying electricity to the area, where there are 11,700 consumers, said Rudra Raj Vishwakarma, chief of the center.

Most of the consumers in the area use electricity for household and irrigation purposes, he added. The town of Madi is surrounded by forests on all sides, with most of the area falling under the Chitwan National Park. The residents of Madi have to use the park’s road to travel to the district headquarters in Bharatpur.

The contract for the project was signed on Baisakh 7, with the company agreeing to complete the work within nine months.
