The Weather Forecasting Division has issued a special bulletin warning of potential heat waves in the Terai region over the next three days. Maximum temperatures in some areas of Far-Western and Lumbini provinces have already reached or exceeded 40 degrees Celsius.
To stay safe during this hot spell, the Division advises taking the following precautions:
- Limit outdoor activity: Stay indoors or seek out cool spaces during the hottest part of the day, typically the afternoon.
- Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water and avoid sugary drinks.
- Dress for the heat: Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, and breathable clothing, preferably made from cotton.
- Protect yourself from the sun: Cover your head with a hat or umbrella whenever you’re outdoors.
- Be aware of heatstroke symptoms: These include fatigue, weakness, excessive thirst, headache, muscle cramps, dizziness, fainting, and vomiting. If you experience any of these symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.
- Those with health problems: People with pre-existing health conditions should be especially cautious and stay in close contact with their healthcare providers.
