The officer overseeing the high-profile 61 kg gold smuggling case, SP Sanjay Singh, has been relieved of his duties. This decision came after a government-appointed inquiry highlighted shortcomings in Singh’s handling of the case, as detailed in a report by the Commission of Inquiry.

SP Singh had been assigned as the Chief of the Nuwakot District Police Office following his involvement in the gold smuggling investigation. However, sources indicate that he was recalled by the police headquarters following concerns raised by the probe commission regarding the Central Investigation Bureau’s (CIB) role in the gold smuggling inquiry.

At the time of his removal, Singh was actively leading the investigation into the 61 kg gold case. Additionally, AIG Kiran Bajracharya, who served as the head of the CIB, has also been transferred to police headquarters following a recent cabinet meeting.

Furthermore, two Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), Durga Dahal and Rugam Kunwar, who were part of the investigation, have also been transferred from the CIB for further review and potential action.
