Sharma was elected unopposed after he emerged as the sole candidate for the post of president during the academy's ninth national convention.
Sharma, who previously served as the academy's senior vice-president, has been active in Nepali folk music for a long time and has established a distinct identity in the field. He is popular among audiences for his traditional folk melodies, satirical performances and songs reflecting everyday life.
