LONDON: A new study has found no overall association between consumption of ultra-processed foods and the incidence of colorectal cancer, according to a report by USA Today.
Published in the journal PLOS Medicine on October 15, the study found that higher consumption of ultra-processed whole-grain and dairy products was associated with a lower risk of colorectal cancer, while greater consumption of ultra-processed meat was associated with a higher risk.
The findings support dietary guidance that recommends eating whole grains and other fibre-rich foods, as well as consuming dairy products and calcium, while limiting processed meat to help reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.
