Nepal’s Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies is working to address the increasing demand for cooking gas and balance it with the available supply, Minister Gauri Kumar Yadav said.
Responding to questions raised by lawmakers during a meeting of the House of Representatives, Minister Yadav stated that the ministry has taken necessary measures to prevent a shortage of gas and ensure its smooth supply.
She urged consumers not to buy more gas than needed and to avoid spreading rumors and misinformation. The minister attributed the current imbalance in the market to the increased demand for gas, which has led to a shortage of full cylinders.
According to Minister Yadav, there are currently 58 LPG gas industries in operation, with a total storage capacity of 10,166 metric tons and a daily filling capacity of 1.75 million gas cylinders.
The ministry has also directed the relevant agencies to implement the instructions of the parliamentary committee and has initiated technical work with the Nepal Oil Corporation to track LPG gas cylinders.
Minister Yadav revealed that diplomatic efforts are underway to increase the quota for gas imports from India for the next three months due to the increased demand.
She added that priority is being given to household consumers, and a record of buyers’ names, addresses, and contact numbers is being maintained to ensure systematic sales and distribution. Priority is also being given to senior citizens, people with disabilities, and those with chronic illnesses.
