Nepal Prepares to Celebrate 32nd World Indigenous Day

Nepal’s Indigenous Nationalities Association has announced that preparations for the 32nd World Indigenous Day are complete.

The association held a press conference in Kathmandu on Thursday to share the details of the event.

According to the United Nations, August 9 is celebrated as World Indigenous Day globally.

This year’s theme is ‘Protecting our rights is today’s necessity! Our collective commitment to building an inclusive and just Nepal with identity !!’

The association’s general secretary, Bimal Saru Magar, said that various programs will be held across the country to mark the day.

Events Planned

On August 9, indigenous communities from across the country will gather at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu, showcasing their traditional attire, music, and cultural performances.

The procession will then move to Tundikhel, where the main event will be held.

The event will be inaugurated by Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav.

The main event will feature cultural performances by indigenous communities, as well as an exhibition of traditional food, handicrafts, and local products.

A panel discussion on the issues faced by indigenous communities, including their rights, language, culture, and identity, will also be held.

Preserving Indigenous Culture

The association has emphasized the need to preserve the language, culture, history, and traditional knowledge of indigenous communities.

It has also called on the government to fully implement the provisions of the constitution, including proportional representation, social justice, equal opportunities, and the protection of indigenous languages and cultures.
