A court in Bhaktapur has rejected a request to remand Durga Prasai, a medical professional and engineer, in custody.
Prasai was arrested by police on Sunday night from his residence on charges of cybercrime, treason, and disturbing public peace and morality.
The police had sought an extension of Prasai’s detention, but the court ordered his release.
Earlier today, Prasai’s wife, Uma Prasai, had filed a habeas corpus petition at the Supreme Court, claiming that her husband was arrested illegally.
