The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) have finalized a tariff agreement for electricity exports from Nepal to Bangladesh. The agreement was reached during a World Bank program in Singapore, with NEA Managing Director Kulman Ghising and BPDB Chairman Mahbubur Rahman present.

In the initial phase, Nepal will export 40MW of electricity to Bangladesh. Transactions will be conducted in US dollars, with sources indicating a selling rate between Rs 8 to Rs 9 per unit (approximately 6.25 to 6.50 cents).

This agreement follows Nepal’s electricity trade agreement with India, signed on January 4th. Bangladesh has broader plans to import 6,000MW of electricity from neighboring countries.
