Narayangadh-Butwal road, which has been a source of frustration for travelers for nearly seven years, has finally become a relatively smooth journey. The road, which connects Narayangadh to Butwal, now takes only about two hours to travel, with some private vehicle drivers claiming to have completed the journey in just one hour and 30 minutes.
Locals and travelers alike have expressed relief and satisfaction with the improved road conditions. Bimal Kalakheli, a gas industrialist, shared his recent experience of traveling from Butwal to Narayangadh in just one hour and 30 minutes. Prakash Acharya, a businessman from Rupandehi’s Tilottama Municipality, also reported a smooth journey, taking only one hour and 50 minutes to reach his home.
The road expansion project, which began in 2075 Chait 8, has been divided into two sections: the eastern section from Narayangadh to Daunne, and the western section from Daunne to Butwal. The project, which is being implemented by the Chinese government-owned company China State Construction, has a total cost of around Rs 16.99 billion, with the Asian Development Bank providing 85% of the funding and the Nepalese government contributing 15%.
According to Engineer Shiva Khanal of the Narayangadh-Butwal Road Project’s eastern section, about 92% of the construction work has been completed, with only some minor tasks such as installing road safety features and connecting drains remaining. The road has been expanded from two lanes to four lanes, with six lanes in populated areas.
