M5 Traffic Latest Update Today: There was a major accident on the M5 in Somerset that caused chaos as an air ambulance attended the scene. This happened on the motorway in between junction 25, Taunton and junction 24, Bridgwater South on Tuesday, 13 October. It was noted from the incident updates that the accident occurred around 1:11 pm. 

The motorists experienced huge problems because of the work done at the scene by the police, ambulances, firefighters and National Highways traffic officers. There were delays up to 120 minutes and congestion up to four miles.

The incident on the M5 in Somerset was one that caused major disruptions for motorists traveling in the northerly direction towards Bridgwater. Traffic was initially stopped in both directions, but later news indicated that southbound traffic was back in motion and this shows that a road accident can affect those living around the motorway.

The part that was affected was the section from junction 25, where it connected with the A358 in the vicinity of Taunton, all the way to junction 24, which is near the A38 Taunton Road in Bridgwater South. 

The road was closed to allow emergency services to attend to any injuries as well as investigating the crash. National Highways also introduced traffic management measures to protect the scene, contributing to lengthy queues on the approach.

The original police statement indicated that there were two vehicles involved in the crash, but a more recent update by National Highways mentioned a serious crash involving several vehicles. Avon and Somerset Police, South Western Ambulance Service, Somerset and Devon Fire and Rescue Service, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and National Highways responded to the accident.

Traffic stranded as a result of the closure on the northern lane was directed back to the starting point by the police and traffic officers.  The exact cause of the collision was not established in the supplied reports.
