Dow Jones Today: US stock futures moved higher on Wednesday, October 14, as investors assessed corporate earnings, awaited US inflation data and monitored developments in the technology sector and global oil markets. Market participants were looking for fresh signals about the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate outlook and the direction of Wall Street.

According to Reuters, Dow futures rose 0.45%, or 234 points, in early pre-market trading at 5:41 a.m. ET. S&P 500 futures gained 0.21%, while Nasdaq 100 futures edged down 0.03%. The mixed movement indicated that investors remained cautious ahead of key economic data and corporate earnings announcements.

Dow Jones Futures Today

Dow Jones futures advanced in early trading after the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended the previous session lower. Investors were assessing whether financial stocks and other blue-chip companies could support a broader recovery while uncertainty surrounding inflation and interest rates continued to influence sentiment.

S&P 500 Futures and Nasdaq 100 Futures Today

S&P 500 futures gained 0.21%, pointing towards a modestly positive start for the broader US stock market. Meanwhile, Nasdaq 100 futures slipped 0.03% as investors monitored technology and semiconductor stocks following recent pressure on the sector.

The difference between the indexes reflected varying investor sentiment towards traditional blue-chip companies and growth-oriented technology shares. Market participants were also assessing corporate earnings to determine whether current valuations were supported by business performance.

US CPI Inflation Data in Focus

US inflation data remained a major focus for investors on Wednesday. The September Consumer Price Index report was expected to provide fresh information about price pressures and help shape expectations for the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy.

Economists surveyed by Reuters expected headline inflation to rise 3.6% year over year in September. Core CPI, which excludes food and energy prices, was expected to increase 0.2% month over month.

A stronger-than-expected reading could reinforce concerns about persistent inflation and keep pressure on interest-rate expectations. A softer reading could ease some concerns, although the Federal Reserve will also consider employment conditions and other economic indicators when assessing monetary policy.
